Setting an Executable Icon
Each Blitz3D+ program can have its own executable icon without a project file. A source named game.bb uses game.ico in the same directory.
- Open the main source file in the IDE.
- Open the Program menu and choose Executable icon > Choose icon for this source....
- Select a valid Windows
.icofile or.pngimage. - Choose Program > Create executable... and select the output file.
The IDE copies or converts the selection to the matching sidecar file. Later executable builds use it automatically, even after switching between source tabs or restarting the IDE. The convention also works when invoking blitzcc -o directly, and it is based on the main source filename rather than the executable output filename.
To return that source to the supplied Blitz3D+ icon, choose Program > Executable icon > Use default for this source. After confirmation, the IDE removes its sidecar .ico. Checking or running a program from the IDE does not create or modify an executable on disk.
An ICO may contain several image sizes. Including 16×16, 32×32, 48×48, and 256×256 images gives Windows suitable artwork for Explorer, shortcuts, the title bar, and task switching. Both bitmap-backed and PNG-backed ICO images are supported.
When you choose a PNG, Blitz3D+ creates those four icon sizes and saves them in the source's .ico sidecar. Transparency is preserved, and a non-square image is centred on a transparent square without stretching.
You can also create the sidecar manually. Keeping it beside the .bb file in source control makes the program's icon travel with the source. If a sidecar exists but is invalid, the compiler stops with a clear error before creating the executable; replace it with a valid ICO or remove it to use the default.
