Can a standard MacBook run BMax?
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Can a standard MacBook run BMax?
I am really taken by the look of the standard white MacBook and would always choose that over the MacBook Pro but want I want to know is despite it`s integrated graphics card can it run BMax to a decent standard?
I really do not want to go with the Pro if a standard MacBook can cope due to the added cost.
Jason.
Man, have some nuts and just buy one and finally get over it!
It should. BlitzMax is not reliant on graphics hardware; it is completely open ended. You can have a program with no graphics (stdout and only stdout), a program with your own graphics engine, etc. (Unlike Blitz3D, which is tied to its own engine).
The Intel chipset in the MacBook supports OpenGL acceleration, so you will have acceptable horsepower for BlitzMax on OS X. The next cool thing is that the 3D desktops for Linux also run very nicely on the Intel chipsets. Even Vista will give you the Aero desktop with all graphics effects on it.
As good as this all sounds, you won't have much fun with current First Person Shooters on it.
I would really like to see it in action but I doubt the people at the Apple store will let me take a BMax game in to try on a MacBook.

..demo working just fine on my MacBook Pro
BlitzMax works great on my old G4 Mac Mini, so a MacBook should run circles around it.
It`s the integrated graphics card in a MacBook though that worries me.
Jason.
No worries. I can run BlitzMax on a Linux console with my piece of garbage 6+ year old Celeron 450 mHz, sub-300 MB RAM, i810 integrated graphics... thing.
BlitzMax is much more a programming language (with accompanying resources developed officially that you can choose to use or not) than a game dev engine, as with Blitz3D.
Max2D should work, as well. I can run MiniB3D on that same box somewhat reasonably. Example programs work on there, albeit a tad ugly since it is a terrible computer and it was very stressed out last time I tried. (It's old enough to have developed a personality and emotions... like a biological entity, eg. mould).
I have a MacBook and BlitzMax runs fine on it.
Just be careful with your MacBook when you buy it, because the case scratches pretty easily.
my MacBook pro running on nVidia 8600,sooooo my suggestion is to pick one with proper graphics card..
