I happened to look back at an old bookmark for www.system76.com

They assemble computers, just like loads of other companies... The difference here is that they have a cool web site, a simple selection and they do not preinstall Windows. (Rather, you start off with Linux).

The one that really caught my eye was the slimline Sable series.
That thing seems a good deal.
(Although, *grumble* integrated graphics...)

They also have some nice sounding laptops.

Anyway, I am hesitant to think about paying someone to assemble a computer when I can do it myself, so I need justification along the lines of "they do a better job than you could."

Have you had any dealings with System76?
Were they good or regrettable?

Never heard of em.

Do it yourself :) It's easy.

While you're waiting for someone who's has first-hand experience to reply...

System 76 pre-install their computers with Ubuntu. The Ubuntu forums have a System 76 support section. You may like to peruse it and see what issues (if any) others have had with them.

[edit] In fact, this thread in particular asks the same question you're asking here. And has answers! :o) [/edit]
