Anyway to stop Xp grouping taskbar...
Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Anyway to stop Xp grouping taskbar...
Is there anyway to stop XP SP2 from grouping TaskBar apps as and when it pleases? I right click on the TaskBar>properties and I make sure that "Group Similar Taskbar Buttons" is unchecked. The problem is though that XP in all it's glory decides to group them even when I have that box unticked.
It's draining my tollerence. WTF have an option not to group the buttons on the taskbar when XP will just do it anyway when it wants to.
:/
Start > Settings > Taskbar and... > Group....
I know where the tick box is to group or ungroup the taskbar buttons. What I'm saying is if there is anyway to prevent XP grouping the taskbar buttons as and when it pleases.
Don't know if it's a system problem, with that option it works on my system.
Can't find similar tweaking guide currently....
I've never seen a system where it automatically re-groups those taskbat buttons after selecting that option once....
Is this a stand-alone machine, or are you part of a windows network with a domain controller? If the latter, then it's possible that there is a group policy in place that automatically 'fixes' some of these settings for you the next time you log on to the domain.
Nah it's just a single computer. It seems to happen only when I have several IE task buttons open.
Thanks for the help anyway guys. :)
Right-click taskbar
Properties
Taskbar tab
Group Similar Taskbar Buttons (uncheck it)
Apply, OK.
Not sure what Yoko is on about - I don't have a 'Settings' option on the start menu?
It's on the 'Classic' start menu.
Get TweakUI.
*sigh*
TweakUIAt least link your pithy one-liner!

That's what
Google is for. :o>
Have you tried re-enabling it and clicking apply/close. Then reopening and removing the check box. Sometimes Windows is like that.
While TweakUI is *very* nice, it won't actually let you disable the grouping completely, all it can do it set some preferences to what to group first (least used vs. most windows vs. "only when more than 'x' windows)
