[edit] Yes, I know hidden is spelled wrong!!!
I set up my FTP server a while back using IE. I want to upload stuff to this but have it only accessible via a direct link rather than someone simply browsing my webspace. Basically I want the files hidden to the public.
Can someone explain how to do this in laymens terms please?
Cheers
Stevie
If you have a bunch of image files (or whatever) in a folder and you don't want people browsing them, the quickest way is to just stick a blank index.htm file in there, too.
You can also use .htaccess and .htpassword (google it), but I don't know the specifics of how to do it that way.
Oh - and you can use CHMOD from your FTP client which lets you set access permissions, but its possible to lock yourself out of your own webspace with that (I found that out the hard way).
Thanks Gfk, I'm a bit of a numpty when it comes to this sort of thing.
Ok, so I've got my blank index.htm file in there and can see the files on my ftp at my end. I also get 'page cannot be displayed' when clicking on the folder on my website - assume this is correct?
Normally, to link to the files in adirectory I would copy a shortcut from my website .. assume I have to manually type the URL now?

Nope, that doesn't work ... can't link to the files in there .. just get page cannot be displayed?
Am I doing this wrong?
