Big gap in AddRemove Programs

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Big gap in AddRemove Programs

After installing and uninstalling some shareware video tools on my computer I was left with a huge gab (basically a 1000 line long empty entry) in my Add/Remove Programs list. There is no Remove button for it and no text. Is there any way to get rid of this?

I had that too - not sure what caused it. However, It went away. Try using a Registry editor (like 'RegEdit').

Or download registry mechanic. I think it has a trial peroid :o)

Download this (free): http://personal.inet.fi/business/toniarts/ecleane.htm

My boys at MajorGeeks will sort you out:

In fact I just bought Registry Mechanic. My pooter is now super-something or other.

I did a bit of research and Registry Mechanic did indeed get a Gold award in PC Format in December 2005.

I just use SpyBot, it has a built-in Add/Remove Programs editor, dont know if it can fix what you're experiancing though.

Wow!

Previously, I used to use RegScrubXP - I just ran it and it found around 114 problems - I quit the program then ran my newly bought Registry Mechanic - it just reported 1,148! problems.

Of course, I need to evaluate the 1,148 with caution - but it signifies that Registry Mechanic is a very deep and very thorough application.

My add/remove programs list is fine until after the last entry where it goes on and on and on with a solid black colour, then it breaks into black bars, then as I scroll further down it gets slower and slower.

As I hardly ever use add/remove programs and its not causing a problem I've not looked into how to fix it. I'm sure its something real easy to fix though.

I had a problem with a program I tried uninstalling once (which turned out to be a Windows component that somehow got registered, perhaps masquerading spyware or something I guess), where all it did was remove the 'Remove' button after it 'finished' uninstalling. I used TweakXP to remove that entry which worked nicely.

Ahh, the cancer of installing and uninstalling apps.

I wish everyone would just distribute a non-install version that you can copy to a directory, instead of installing. If it isnt something that needs to be available at a right-click or something that all users on the machine need to use, it is much better to just keep the software in a directory.
