Fantasy RPG town pack launched

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Fantasy RPG town pack launched

Hi,

I am pleased to announce that my Fantasy Theme Town pack has now been finished and is available now.

The pack contains a full RPG fantasy medieval town, including Guild Hall, armour shop, magicians shop etc and also includes lots of town houses. The pack even contains a 'keep wall' to house the town in, to keep hordes away!

Whats new to this pack is the addition of a pack of trees and foilage, plus 4 sky cubes, and music tracks. Please check out at the following link:
http://arteria-gaming.com/fantheme_pics.html

Looks awesome! HJave you got a demo that allows exploration?

I will be producing a video so that people can see the level in action!

This will be available soon

Thanks

Steve

HI,

The payment button is now fixed!!

Steve

TOTAL LARGENESS!!!

I'm buying this sucker tonight.

Thanks! Ill have your pack over to you shortly

puki you might need some weapons to have total largness, withouth some medieval swords you will not enlarge enought to be large! ;) drop by my blacksmith store and I'll hook you up :D muahhaha

/TheBlackSmith

Okey-dokey - buying them now.

wow... that's a real nice lookin' medieval town... and totally Large as well :)

nice stuff yetari...

--Mike

Large-it.

When I get the download link I am going to make it 'snow' badgers onto the roofs of all the buildings - so many badgers that my PC slows down and crashes - coz I won't be deleting them - they will litter the streets.

I wonder how many badgers I will be able to Large onto the screen before my computer falls to its knees?

15 badgers

that's uh very precise DampeS8N, are you some kind of enternal badger expert?

Argh this thread has been Puki'd.

The buildings look very nice Yertari, and some appear to be explorable which is absolutely excellent. You mentioned in your secondary post a video to "explore *the* level" which is worrying though.

Are the buildings seperate objects with their own textures or are they part of a larger level entity where the textures are cross-referenced making it harder to use them individually?

Hi,

All the buildings come as separate models (with lightmaps) with their own texture folders. Also.. each building has an interior.

Cheers

Steve

I hope the swords I gave you will help you slay many dragons ;) heck I might even become a dragon master and make you some fierce dragons muhahah :)

thanks for buying the pack puki! ;)

Nice work, only thing I'd take note of is the fact that everything is very square/flat. It's like the buildings were made by the Gods of perfect 90 and 45 degree angles.

Plus they're all just rather unimaginative and bland. Nothing really makes them attractive.

Decent work overall, but it could have been better.

$.02

They look flippin awesome, good work with the texturing. The doorways on the castle looks kind of weird, I think having the top fully semi circle would make it look more 'natural'. Excellent work though, it looks awesome!

Unimaginatinve and bland???
Why is it that everytime you post, Mr Cower that its always with such negativeness - isnt it best not to post a reply at all??? and keep your thoughts to yourself.

Bland??? thats a funny one - have you never scene tudor type buildings in the uk????... hmmm... they must be all bland too.

Yes, unimaginative and bland.

I'm not being negative here, I'm giving you honest criticism. If you feel like living in ignorance and never improving then you can only accept praise.

You have no interesting colors, it's all very monotone. My attention is drawn more to the sky than the buildings. That's not a good thing.

The buildings themselves are extremely square, tudor buildings are not 100% flat like the way you portray them in your work. It's fantasy, you shouldn't be constrained by a normal style, go for something that's genuinely interesting.

And last but not least, yes, I have seen tudor style buildings, they are not near as generally dull as what you present.

Let's take these two pictures (not real houses, but they're styled the same) for example:

Notice the colors, the woodword on the walls, etc. It's very attractive and styled in a very nice way, whereas yours is all straight (probably 45- and 90-degree angles) woodwork (the only exception I can see is one that might have curved woodwork, and if it does then you should have put it closer to the viewpoint so that it would attract the eye rather than having the sky steal the focus). The colors of the roof contrast well with the colors of the main building, and the lowest level has darker and more saturated wood than the middle sections of the building.

Now let's look at picture #2:

Notice the curvature, the flaws in the plaster, etc. The curvature of the stairs contrasts the otherwise square nature of the house, the supports under the second story cast shadows that create a much nicer look and feel, the entrances have stone arches, the edges of the roof are curved. Notice the exaggerated height of the roof. All of it creates a building that is pleasing to the eye.

By comparison your work is bland and unimaginative, using primarily desaturated colors, dull lighting, and very flat and perfect surfaces.

Heck, here's an example of one of my pieces of work to contrast yours:

Note the imperfections, the curvature, the slight sinking of the roof, etc. Without these details the entire thing would be very dull and boring to look at.

So do you see my point?

Edit: Here's another example of good design.

So now my post is been turned into advertising your models....

TO be honest, i dont like your model... and thats 'being honest' as you put it. I think it looks very unrealistic
The price i am charging on the pack is of immense great value - i mean your getting 11 models (2 extra in the dearer pack), plus 10 music tracks, foilage, trees, and skies

PLEASE..... your post would be justified if i were charging £200, but im not...

i

>So do you see my point?

So what is your point? ;)

He did a good job on the pack no matter how you would like them to look, and no matter how good he would have done it you would still not buy it ´because you can make them your self ;) for other people then your self these buildings are more then perfect for their prototypes or whatever they are building ;) I hope this sells because it can only help sales of medieval weapons pack ;) Pukie buyed it, but I bet he wouldn't buy it if this pack wasn't released ;)

I'm buying the pack on the basis that it is better than I could do (at the moment).

I haven't yet received a download yet link though.

Also, "maximo" - I haven't got a download link for your weapon pack either.

Sniff.

You can either make it good and it will actually sell well, or you can half-ass it and get less interest. It's your business, you can choose how to run it, even if that means bad decisions on your part.

I think it looks very unrealistic

Oh, but we're talking about fantasy here, yertari. We aren't talking about the next wannabe-Counter-Strike or Half-life 2, we're talking about a fantasy game (that's clearly intended to be in a medieval style). Flat, perfect surfaces are boring, many people doing the work you're doing (and better, I should add) know this and have put the knowledge to use in their work.

I honestly think it would benefit you to pull your model pack temporarily so you can spend some time making the models more appealing to the eye rather than boxy and monotone.

So what is your point? ;)

That he's made bland and unimaginative work and is attempting to sell it when he should have sought some form of criticism prior. If he had spent more time and done some research on design he could have easily made better work, sold it for more, and made more sales.

Good work sells itself, bad work doesn't.

In fact, sorry "maximo" - my ISP classed it as spam! I have now recovered it. Good job I just checked my spam folder.

>Also, "maximo" - I haven't got a download link for your weapon pack either.

Hi puki, I sent an email just few hours after you bought it. i sent it at @aol.com address. I'm at work right now but I'll try again today when I come back home :) I hope I got the right address.

@ N Cower

Pull my model pack?? You are now starting to annoy me.. Please just keep your comments to yourself.

I am not going to post here, in reply to you anymore... cos your bering very offensive and that last comment 'bad work does not sell. - please please.. You really go too far

Steve

Puki... you will have the download link very shortly. ive just had to do some site maintenance and what not - sorry about the small delay

Fine, feel free to ignore valid criticism.

Would it make you happy if I lied and told you I loved your work, your soul, and that you have a pretty smile?

no.. it would make me happy if you didnt post at all - im sick of seeing people make such negative posts.

i said.. i wasnt going to reply.. to you, but youve really annoyed me

im sick of seeing people make such negative posts

Nice work

Decent work overall, but it could have been better.

I'd say I'm being very kind here.

Edit: Let me describe what I did:
1. I said that you had nice work.
2. I told you what I thought.
3. I said that it was decent, but it could be better.
4. I elaborated on my thoughts so as to clear it up.

Here's what you did:
1. Took criticism as insult.
2. Took the elaboration of my thoughts as a very large insult.
3. Well, basically you're taking it all as an insult.

You're looking at this from the wrong perspective. Who here has provided you any sort of valid criticism? Unless you hear something honest and not exactly what you'd like to hear (currently that seems to be "Oh I love it, can I have your babies?".. well, maybe not the part about babies), even if it means you have to take a step back and look through all the praise and ass-kissing to see your work in a different light. Everyone likes praise, but if that's all you get then you'll either a. improve very, very slowly, b. never move out of your comfort zone, or c. never produce anything worthwhile.

So I hope by now that you understand that I'm not trying to bother you, insult you, annoy you (well, not until after you decided to insult me by saying I was a negative person and generally implying that I'm rude) but to help you see ways that you can improve your work.

>I'd say I'm being very kind here.

>Good work sells itself, bad work doesn't.

cough cough, very kind! if you were kind what you could have done is offered to help him improve this pack by creating few extra textures for it, that would be kind if you really are interested to help here ;)

if you were kind what you could have done is offered to help him improve this pack by creating few extra textures for it

I'm kind, not generous.

"maximo" I emailed you as your weapon pack is currently set to look for '.psd' textures.

I'm kind, not generous.

There are ways and means of putting your ideas across. Your kindness seems to have more than a little touch of arrogance about it.

If you really wanted to help, why not contact yertari directly (his e-mail is readily available), rather than voice your "constructive criticism" in a public forum?

EarthAngel - i think you said a very important thing here...'rather than voice your constructive criticism in a public forum'.

Some people seem to take great pleasure in picking at other people on these types of forums - and it actually usually makes them look very bad and not paint a good impression of them at all.

I agree with you - N Cower should have perhaps contacted me, if he truly wanted to assist in his own way.
I really dont see the point of posting a bad comment about someone'd work - which i add has taken me a considerable time to create.

Noodle let the man alone for pete's sake.
Nice job Yertari. I'll order one this weekend.

... if I may ...

I won't comment on the gfx here.. I'm not into 3D.. can't judge it. The only 3D I've ever done in my life is raytracing @ Povray, and then mainly those classic raytrace images with shiny spheres on checkerboards, or only very basic untextured architecture.. not exactly comparible. ^_^

The comment I have is actually on the 'do suggestions in private' as opposed to 'do suggestions on a public forum'. It's a major advantage if you can do it on a public forum because you simply get way more feedback that way. Because the word of one can be a trigger for someone else. So instead of 10 ppl giving feedback in private, you can get into the situation that 10 ppl give feedback in public, and because of that another 10 will do the same in addition.. more feedback = better.

I found it quite interesting, at my study back then, that each tune someone made was discussed by the whole group.. the advantage of that was that you got comments on a classical piece from ppl who were into rock, dance, classical, pop, cabaret etc. etc. The comments you'd get were so varied it was really interesting to hear and learn from. Likewise it was even possible to take your piece to multiple teachers and get different comments again.. some teachers were specialised in classic music, others in 20th century music, others in filmmusic, others in modern/dance/art/experimental/electronics etc. And while the latter might give totally different feedback than the classic one, even if you gained only 1 idea from it, then it was worth the efforts of asking.
And yes, some of the students/teachers came with feedback that appeared to be stupid/irrelevant/annoying.. and that was *in* class, at the front! Until some years later.. the feedback appeared to be right. I got some of those 'stupid' suggestions as well, in the first year(s).. however, at the end of the 4 years I was at the top of the whole group.. so.. to say that all that feedback I got was bad .. I don't think so..

yertari (and pleeeeease try to inteprete this a bit possitively... yes I know you prolly think that everything I say to you is meant negative... such a pity it is btw..)

If Noel has comments on your 3D then (imho) you could've replied with the following:

(1) "ok tnx, but this is what you get for the price, more detail/quality = more bucks"

(2) "dunno ... this is my style, and I like it, I think I'll leave it the way it is.. but tnx anyway"

(3) "hmm.. interesting, can you give me more info/details/feedback, perhaps I can fix something.. I can't guarantee anything tho.. :)"

That's a completely different way to interact with ppl who give feedback to you than saying "WHAT? Why do you need to be so negative? Why do ppl always put things down? I'm so annoyed now! I'm not going to reply to you anymore! I *know* how it works, because I have these and those contracts!"..

I mean, don't you see the difference between those kind of answers?

What's even better, if all feedback-communication is done public, then OTHER 3d-persons might learn something from it too. So rather than going private I strongly recommend to keep using the forums to showcase things and receive feedback.. (even if it's feedback you don't want to hear!)

@CS_TBL
And the above post is helpful how????

This thread has no longer been Puki'd.
This thread has been Blitz communitied.

yertari, I think you need to know this in the light of Mr Cower's 'comments'.

I just bought your model pack , and I COULD model a town like this if I wanted. So why? - Time.

What's it gonna take me to do this - a week, two weeks, probably more. Or pay the fee you ask?
Hehe, no problem. Credit card out.

And Mr Cower obviously has (say it quietly) an... agenda.
Hmm. What could that be?

Finally, at maximo: nice site, nice work. But what I need today are lowpoly modern street people (suits, skirts), Can any of you real modellers produce something like that please. We don't all need just fantasy/fighting.

yertari didn't ask for any feedback - he just announced the pack is available. This isn't the showcase/graphics forum. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Simple.

Thanks people's for defending me.. it make me feel nice.. that i have some good support here.
I put so much effort into this project, that it completely took over my day job too!...

I make the packs with enthusiasm, and true love for creating something from nothing. When you defend yourself sometimes against peoples comments, it makes one look like you cant take criticism, but really.. a couple of the people here on most forum threads i read, just seem to put other people down and why???? Like John said 'What is their agenda'?

Thanks

Steve

@John C

I don't see the issue, just read it. It's just a reply on the private vs public feedback brought up by EarthAngel. The only thing I try to inject here is the way how any kind of (public) feedback can work in a positive way.. purely based on my experience in the classroom @ study. There's nothing bad on improving a constructive feedback situation, rite?

@CS_TBL
LOL... Just checking to see if you can follow your own advice, and you can. Congrats.... Cheers:)

I recognise some of the textures. If you don't have permission to distribute them then I suggest you don't distribute them.

One eyed Jack - be careful please what your saying.

I have permission to use all the features content. If you care to look at my website, i even give credit to some of the sources i use...

Now i am really annoyed

You immediatally took the stance of ' i dont own them'. These kind of POSTS can seriously hurt my business.. and im not a happy man right now with what you have jus said

I want you to edit your post please

Steve

in fact,... i am not going to post on this thread again.. im really feeling very very frustrated by some of the comments here...

well guys.. if you wanted to upset me.. yeah youve won

/threadjack on
But what I need today are lowpoly modern street people (suits, skirts)

I cant seem to find the right URL but the Geometricks site has low poly modern people models, they're the people/person who did the sample models for B3D and DarkMatter. It seems to fit your requirements.

Haaahahaha. :P

yertari, You should be used to people around here assuming things. We all do it. Alot of us in a bad way :/

These are some sweet models :) Just ignore the posts that dont live up to the same quality. You kind of sound like a stubborn kid having a tantrum now ^.^ I say again, ignore 'em.

cool - will do!

Well done on releasing this exellent pack yertari. If I was developing a game that needed something like this then I would buy it. It's good quality and well presented.

I wouldn't get too upset with some of the replies you've got as this is the nature of things. You're going to get the odd person here and there who will try and shoot down your work and try and stifle your sales.

Anyway, nice job. :)

out of interest - what packs would people be looking to buy?? Im currently doing the tropical one now

yetari, why are you being defensive? Your attitude is immature at best.

I took the time to post for your sake, not mine. I make a living doing this. It was just advice. Yet you blow up...

immature - you accused me of perhaps using textures i dont own.... PLEASE.. i dont call that immature.

i call it imature you suggested this in the first place - not very professional at all

my 2cents: Forum flaming is a fact of life. "Constructive" criticism is useful, and you're gonna get it (*Un*constructive criticism too) in a forum even if you don't ask for it. Noodle's first post wasn't actully offensive, he just said "bland" and "could've been better". Yetari overeacted and then Noodle backed up his argument but also started getting offensive. That's how I see it anyway ...

I thought the graphics were great, much better than I could do, but actually Noodle has a point about maybe a bit more warping and peeling plaster etc. Having said that I though his ones were too cartoony, but it depends on the type of game you want I guess.

Anyway I wish you good luck Yetari and try to chill more when teeangers tell you they know it all.

Well this thread just shows how much sometimes blitz community sucks!!! Instead of suporting this you suckers put the man down and then complain that there are not enough artists in these forums or that noone makes packs you want to buy, or whatever.

I think this guy did good job on this, simple pack, cheap pack. Buy it if you need it, shutup if you don't need it or can't say anything that will help him sell more of the pack!

yertari, your responses are hurting your business far more than anyone else can.
All you needed to say in reply was "I have full rights to distribute the textures".

That is the correct response. I hope you will learn from this experience.

Everyone else: I am not flaming him or criticising him. Please read the posts very carefully and regulate the signal to noise ratio, thank you.

I did not read the entire thread, they are nice models but I could cut myself on those right angles! Needs to be more organic.

That is the correct response. I hope you will learn from this experience.

Who are you to dictate what his correct response is? This "community", for the most part, amazes and saddens me.

double post.

Can you tell me how his ranting in response is any good? I would consider a simple-straight to the point response better than what he came up with which was:

One eyed Jack - be careful please what your saying.

I have permission to use all the features content. If you care to look at my website, i even give credit to some of the sources i use...

Now i am really annoyed

You immediatally took the stance of ' i dont own them'. These kind of POSTS can seriously hurt my business.. and im not a happy man right now with what you have jus said

I want you to edit your post please

All I said was:

I recognise some of the textures. If you don't have permission to distribute them then I suggest you don't distribute them.

His problem is that he doesn't even understand that I'm not accusing him, I'm giving him advice as some of them seem familiar to me. On the off-chance that he might not be aware of copyright issues if any exist.

Of course I come under attack for helping, and for those who are attacking, I just have to assume english isn't your native language.

His reply is defensive and angry, and isn't doing him any favours. Therefore I gave him further advice. I have not attacked him once, nor do I intend to. I suggest you understand what is written.

This "community", for the most part, amazes and saddens me.

You care that much about a forum and some people having different personalities? Read the posts again if you must, but there is none of the attitude you imagine coming from me.

You care that much about a forum and some people having different personalities?

Where did I say that I mind people having different personalities? I simply asked who you were to dicate what his response should be - a question which you didn't answer.

Can you tell me how his ranting in response is any good?

I didn't suggest his ranting was good either.

I suggest you understand what is written.

That's ironic, considering you seem to have mis-understood my comment entirely.

EarthAngel: Are you Becky Rose with a new account or a totally new Becky?

yertari: They look fine.

Noel... Noel... Noel.......what ARE you like!

With all respect Noel, I don't recall many (if any) games that use models with such a polygon count, or as much poly detail, as yours have. In the wireframe pic of your house there are about 60-70 polys used in the windows alone (just the glass!) :)

For £22.50 this pack is a bargain.

Also, this thread has gone pear shaped, and if it were me I'd ask the mods to delete from post Noels $0.2c post onwards as it's just plain unwarranted :S

Tom

wow... what a commotion coming from such a nice, peaceful looking village...

yetari... first of all, the 'customer' is always right... regardless... no matter what their opinion, level of expertise, agenda, astrological sign... they are the customers, putting up their hard earned plastic...

if you ever want to succeed in business, you've gotta realize this... one eyed was right, your response to Noodle was sorta immature and beneath you... you gotta be above all that...

as far as Noodle's comments... he's one of those perfectionists... you gotta realize that... and his work is verrrrrry good... and i think he has some idea about what he's talking about...

... but in this particular situation, i think he has lost perspective... just a bit. yetari's pack is not meant to be sold to the AAA game developer as such, and he is not asking an arm and a leg for em... and with this in mind, they are quite good, and will do the job quite well for an AA game... i liked em, on first sight i liked em... i think that they are definitely above the norm, and up there with the 'good' stuff...

hey... we are all in this together... instead of trying to denegrate or belittle each other... instead of taking things as denerating or belittling... wouldn't it make sense to approach each other as members of the same, hard working community...

... and this is not to say that criticism should be censored or made less critical... but there is a way to do things that is constructive...

... and those on the receiving end... ya gotta be willing to take it as such... especially if you expect to charge for something.

just imagine for a second, if Mark got so worked up over our constant badgering over the 3D module being delayed...

..by the way... isn't it done yet Mark!!! what's taking sooooo loooong !!!!!!

:)

--Mike

Are you Becky Rose with a new account or a totally new Becky?

That's funny! :)

No, I'm not Becky Rose. I wish my last name was as pretty as Rose!

awwwwwwwwwwww.... aint dat sweet....

i wish my last name was Savage...

--Mike

Could you all please shove a #*!& up yer arses and shut up now. There. I said it. This thread wasn't here for you all to argue with each other :(

Mike: I always thought your last name should be "Robe" ;-)

Just thank god it's not "Hunt". :P

Are you Becky Rose with a new account or a totally new Becky?

Rose is my middlename :), i'm a Becky Rose, not a Becky if you see what I meen. So that's a different Becky.

big10p, naughty naughty.

Thanks both Beckys (one with a Rose suffix) for clearing that up.

I worked with a Northern bloke called Mark Hunt, which is kinda naughty with my Southern English accent where the H is less pronounced, I usually called him Mr H for clarity.

hahahahahahahaaa... you guuuuys...

Hunt... LOL...

i'm not even gonna ask about Robe GA... i just don't wanna know...

:)

--Mike

@Red (I wasn't gonna post but heck...)

Noel isn't a customer, so on that pretext can we assume he's wrong then? Lol! ouch - sorry! Not like me to stir! ;)

Yetari - MORE power to your elbow mate, well done! Nice work, good price, not everyone's cuppa but what is and to be frank who cares if Noel doesn't like 'em enough to buy them -he's good enough to do his own (very nice stuff too)!?

One bit of advice - DON'T LET THESE PEOPLE GRIND YOU DOWN!

You HAVE done some very respectable work here - enjoy the sales and let those who mock babble whilst you smile sweetly and count the crona!

IPete2.

Actually B.Rose, Mark Hunt also sounds well funny in a Northern Accent, try it lol!

good point IP... so, yes... lets assume that he's wrong... just for the sake of arguement :)

i'm sure Noodle won't mind... as a matter of fact, he's probably used to it by now...

:)

--Mike

what a funny thread this has turned into.. im actually laughing....which is good i suppose!

Steve(yertari)

Maybe we've all learnt something just like at the end of those old He-Man episodes!

now im laughing hard

Would you be willing to do custom teaxturing, I've got some ideas for fantasy buildings in my sketch book. I'm wondering if you're willing to draw the textures for the buildings.

Just been surfing your site, noticed the music aswell, we need to talk... o.o

That's what email is for =]

For my 2c, I think Noel has a point, however fails to prove it with his pictures anyway. I don't like the last model at all, it looks like it was modelled in plasticene. The second one is gorgeous, but of course completely out of the question as far as game resources are concerned - maybe as a very, very special building but certainly not your average home... the first one is nice, but also looks very square anyway which almost completely mystifies his point =]

But, his point remains and I hope Steve can take it on board, which can only ultimately improve his work over time. Still as is said, what you get for your buck is class and he knows what I think of his work. He has a lot of my money now. =]

yertari your work looks great, just ignore the critics.

Wow, the download is 100MB - so there must be lots of goodies.

Noel, youre a good kid, dont you have any better things to do?

The pack looks as good as Neverwinter Nights final game art, for example. There the buildings were also all 90degree perfectly straight. In W.o.W. i think they arent, but thats a different style. This style works and it really isnt bad at all.

Yetari, you should know that if you consider yourself a smart person, you dont communicate with these people!! If you finish something, post it and dont read it. Leave an email or an external contact. Dont be like me for example, a stupid person wasiting time, all the time the same "discussions". Like any other forum really.

To be honest - I thought from the screenshots that it looked good - which is why I purchased it straight away.

A factor here is a lot of people are going to use this stuff within Blitz and polycount will count (ahem).

WOW - just unpacked the archive - 200MB

One thing I absolutely love is the fact that you can take the buildings apart - because the houses have interiors, this is good, coz you can have strip out the interiors for external models.

You can even take down internal walls. The houses are basically made of dozens of mini models (walls, floors, steps, etc), so you can customise them.

I like, I like, I like.

The ability to edit the geometry (by removing pieces) is a big bonus - in my opinion.

EDIT:

OH, I should point out - I was editing the geometry using 'Deep Exploration'.

Just in case anyone buy this pack and then says 'how come "puki" could edit his models?'. You will need to use some kind of utility to do it - then you can save the edited models.

Wow - this is a classic thread - its got a bit of everything - just need a good death to finish it off - Puki !?

Because you can completely edit the buildings - you can actually make new ones!!!

However,

I haven't found any music in the folders - I bought the more expensive version and should have an additional 5 music tracks to however many are in the standard pack.

I'm supposed to have 2 bonus buildings, but only seem to have one.

The pack contains a full RPG fantasy medieval town, including Guild Hall, armour shop, magicians shop etc and also includes lots of town houses

I'm not sure which are the shops - I have directories saying: blacksmiths, bonus buildings, foliage, guild hall, house1 up to house8, sky cube images, town keep and trees.

No music directory or shops that I can see?

EDIT - I JUST GOT AN EMAIL TO DOWNLOAD THE MUSIC AND ANOTHER WILL FOLLOW FOR THE BONUS BUILDINGS.

LARGENESS

Music is nice - I got 10 songs - about 2 minutes each - so roughly 20 minutes of music.

Some of the tracks remind me of the original Tomb Raider music (hard to explain - some of them have that deep, sweeping, richness that I loved in some of the Tomb Raider tracks)

EDIT - I mean the original Tomb Raider computer game - not the film.

Thanks for sharing the details here Puki, it shows what great value for money this pack really is.

IPete2.

For future reference, if you want to announce some finished work, but you don't want people to comment on it, post a news article instead.

@po, Many users have their links saved directly to the forum and do not see the mainpage.

True, but I guess that's the price you pay for not wanting any critique.

I think that if you post anything on a public forum, you should expect a few bad posts, whether you want them or not. Some may argue that good forums should be peaceful and loving. They're not, so too bad, grow some skin.

I once saw Tomb Raider running on a Voodoo 1 card at ECTS London, quite a long time ago now. I though it was amazing! haha

I think the screenshots look great, and the details provided by puki seem to indicate it's remarkably good value for money for the target audience, which is great.

Excellent work.

But if anyone's going to try to make some money by releasing goods or services to the public, you really need to be a little more thick-skinned. It's not all rainbows and lollipops in the Big Bad World.

To reiterate: Excellent stuff.

However,

The models seem huge.

I just loaded one into B3D and and had to scale it by .005,.005,.005

These seem way outside the 1 Blitz unit = 1 metre.

Also, there is some bizarre stray geometry in/around/on some of the buildings. However, due to their construction, it is easy to rectify some of it. For example, house 8 which is sort of like a barn structure joining a house structure has a stray piece of geometry inside it (in the 'house' part of the structure - at eye level - it is virtually invisible when walking through from one side to another, but walking back through it stands out like a sore thumb).

EDIT: here is the building taken from their site:

You can't see the piece of stray geometry it is just out of site behind the front left-hand side wall - if the camera was to move more to the right then you'd see it.

Some texturing inaccuries are there - but then that was the same with "L_Draven's" building pack. An example of this is House 2 has a small door on the outside and a larger door on the inside. At first I thought the buildings were out of scale with each other, until I noticed the internal door was bigger - however, again, due to the nature of the construction of these buildings you can easily switch things around - which is not as easy to do with "L_Draven's" buildings as his are sort of 'scene-type' buildings where the building is a whole object where you can't just simply remove a wall, etc.

Building 1 has a hidden cavity wall - which is obviously an error as the inside of the wall is actually meant to be the outside - ie, the wooden beams are inside the hidden cavity where only a ghost could get in to see them. However, again - due to the construction of the buildings, you can fix this.

EDIT: in fact, this is building 1 take from their site - the lower left-hand wall is missing the wooden beams that are on the other 3 walls - in fact, they are inside the wall in a cavity:

There are quit a few texturing anomilies with regard to the wooden beams on buildings - again, you can edit these.

However, apart from the stray geometry/texture problems (which exist in "L_Draven's" pack too) overall it is very good.

EDIT:
This picture highlights something that exists in some of "L_Draven's" buildings too - basically, windows that have been positioned over beamwork - which kind of doesn't look right (this is also the house with the smaller external door than the internal side):

EDIT:
Although, it is fair to say that a lot of the problems I noted are easy to spot without looking hard - which makes you wonder why they are there - but, again, you could say the same with "L_Draven's" pack - all-in-all, both packs are very good.

ps. both this and "L_Draven's" packs are good value for money in my opinion - not perfect, but then they still look good.

I think your models are very well done, I do thnk they need to be a little less perfect though as noodle said. This community does not take kindly to constructive criticism I have seen tons of post where someone offers advice on improving something and the artist get defensive about it. If you can't deal with criticism dont post. I think your models look awesome but you need to work on your short temper remember in the business world act professional shake your head smile and walk away.

This thread has been Blitz communitied.

Ain't that the ( sad ) truth.

Wow - what a thread... classic. My two euro cents: buildings are good. Slightly low poly, yes, but they are game media made for Blitz game makers... it would be different thing if they were 3DMark content, but they're not.

Good work yertari ...

For all the other stuff ... remember what opinions are like ... and how everyone's got one!

My opinion? If it doesn't sell ... then look back at some of the critics' comments. Until then if you're happy with what you've got and you think it hits your target market then ignore them.

Especially pretentious kids!

You obviously put in your best effort to this point and you've hit on a little niche that'll probably net you some decent money. If it doesn't do what you want it to do ... then fix it. Until then no one knows any more about it than you so don't take it so hard.

I just watched an interview with Sumner Redstone. He was talking about how people told him MTV and Nickelodeon would be failures and how sometimes you've got to ignore the critics and follow your instincts.

Of course ... if your instincts tell you that you can do better and your critics are right and you're just too lazy to do something about it ... well then shame on you! Get back to work and quickly follow this effort up with an even better pack!

I've now got my second bonus building.

Also, "yertari" has done a fix on House 2 - yep, the door is fixed.

Hooray.

It is pleasing to report when someone continues improving their product.

HI Puki,

Im so glad your happy with your purcahse - makes me feel its all worthwhile.

I am continuing to make improovements to the models too, so no doubt i a few days time, you will have some more links off me...

yertari

I just thought I'd chip in here. I haven't bothered reading most of the thread, just the first 10 or so posts. I am pretty shocked to see your reactions to Noel's crits. That is incredibly constructive criticism and -very- valuable for you.

He did not rip into your work, he simply told you that in fantasy - perfect does not exist. He gave you pointers on how you can improve your work and showed examples. I don't know many people who are willing to set time away from doing more important things to help people in such detail.

If you didn't want anything heavily constructive like that, and just wanted bull@#!* "Wow your work is lovely" comments, then you should have said.

Other than that, I don't mind some of the textures, the windows are nice. The floor though ( which I guess is just a textured plane ) would look much nicer if it had pavements, and maybe lamps and stuff, maybe a market stall?

Im putting an end to this thread now. As only old ground is being dug up now, and you know it will only result in a flame war.

Lets just say its pre-emptive.

Temporarily unlocked to make a little comment.

yertari - your website looks very odd in my browser (IE): the page is over 3 screens wide with the payment details somewhere in the centre. Hope this helps. :)

PS. nice models.
