Probably not the issue but does it even have a 3d card, let alone a GL capable one?
I know the eee 9xx has one and the asus aspire has got one (as i own one) but i thought the 701 had some bog standard 800px or something, or is that just the monitor :/
edit: Although if max2d works then it probably has so ignore me, its < 10 am.
