I started coputing on the Sinclair ZX81, back before Sir Clive sold his company to Timex, before it became the TS1000.
he sold to Amstrad (in 86?) not timex, timex were licenced to make it for the states and iir the had a scottish plant that made the speccy for the uk market
it was more of case of "well make it for you as long as we can make it for ourselves too"
and without such an agreement they might never have been able to do the massive cost cutting price warfare that all 8bits did
the publication is more than likely Retro Gamer, not retro games, i had been buying it since issue 1 till its publisher collapsed, i didnt know about the relaunch till it was in the 3rd or 4th issue and always forgot to order back issues and ive missed that many here and there that i stopped buying it (without the CD it was just the oppinions of the journalists and tbh i could get those anywhere on the net)
might stick the mags on ebay
My main reason for posting this post is to see if anyone would still buy one of thses machiines for nostagia sakes, as i know i would.
I know some emus dont have te same feel as using the original, hell a pc qwerty vs a speccy no contest, but trying to remember where things were for basic etc ...
if they remade consoles with old teck and new id be interested in some things, but not the old ways an SD/usb stick full of .z80 or whatever instead of tape on an otherwise authentic spec speccy
those joystick atari 2600's and c64's lack (well in the c64's case) all the bits that make them 'them'
but after remembering xpadder i will dig out my 360 usb pad and map it out to aslp so i can play icicle works and not break my brain with the heritic anti keys (qaop man myself)
