me too,
If a 2d game is good then it doesnt matter one bit. To me a 'real' gamer is someone who can find immersion and imagination regardless of the graphics (provided the gameplay is good). Someone who reads the reviews and back of the box over simply oggling the screenshots.
In the last year or so ive played many 2d games, and two games with relatively simple graphics really stood out, both made by indies and both are in my top 20 most favorite of all time games. One was Eschalon by Basilisk (i was a huge baulders/ultima fan :) the other was Wesnoth, an infuriating TBS that had me playing for weeks.
That said, i still -prefer- 3d as it gives more freedom, but just because a game is 2D it dont make it bad.
Back on topic,
All those saying its a disappointment, why? Its not -that- kind of release. Now it has been opened up, i am certain development will speed up enormously. Much more so than if it had remained closed.
On windows XP both seem to run the same (when i tested i think i got like 5-10 fps more on GL) but OGL is -much- slower on in vista. My blitzmax and irrlicht experiments seem to indicate this too. I only buy Nvidia or ATi though. (although my work laptop is intel but i wouldnt use it for games anyway)

Maybe only Microsoft fanboys find DirectX faster than OpenGL, but I'm not a fanboy of anything, I just know that several demos and games which supported both DX and OGL graphics, were always faster with OGL, no matter if it was my old ATI 800, or my old GF 8800.
i agree, the few games i can run on ubuntu using OGL seem to run smoother than the same game using DirectX.
