I haven't used very many different languages, but BlitzMax definately tops at least C, C++, Java, C# and Visual Basic. Not in every area of course, but most. C# and Java come closest, but are too much of a PITA for small things.
I don't know why you say Java does not distinguish between variable types (thinking JavaScript?), but I think the fact that you need around six lines of code for Hello World kind of sums up what sucks about it.
But anyway, IMHO it's the best language I've used.
