I have been doing a lot of work in C/C++ lately. I despise it. The string handling is a joke. People actually accept that you have to do this to turn a float into a string:
char temp[100];
sprintf(temp,"%f",myfloatvalue));
DrawText(temp,0,0);
Here's the BMX version:
DrawText myfloatvalue,0,0
The CPP include system is a nightmare. It takes forever to get anything done.
CSharp is Windows-only, at least for now.
I can't take Java seriously because it doesn't distinguish between string, integers, floats, and other variables. It just has one variable type.
BlitzMax is the only one that has memory management, cross-platform compatibility, and multithreading (soon). It can make DLLs. There are still some annoyances and limitations, but I sort of think it is the best language in the world. Not just because I like it, but for real reasons. What do you think?
