Even Windows NT 4 was faster than Windows 2000 before Windows 2000 got it's drivers updated, at first the NT 4 drivers were highly optimized and bug free.
Same happened with Windows 2000 vs 2003.
Same will happen with XP vs 7.
People who just want a simple OS which boots fast, takes no memory and works with their peripherials, will have to wait until 7 gets its drivers updated, like always.
If I can switch back to Windows 2000 UI in 7, I might even consider it, if it supports DirectX10.
