Because XP will be broken, and won't work fine forever. Seriously. Why aren't you using Windows 95 still? I'll tell you why, because your fancy 21st century hardware doesn't work on an 20th century OS. When Windows 7 hits, XP will share the same fate. The only thing keeping XP alive is Microsofts stupidity and complete lack of understanding of their market. ULCPCs and HTPCs how did you not see that one coming? Because you were too busy mucking about with speech and handwriting recognition, that for some reason only ever seems to correctly recognize the word "Microsoft", and which absolutely nobody wants, rather than paying attention to the needs of your customers. Still, I guess that's one of the benefits of having a monopoly. the OS assumes the user doesn't have a clue of what they're doing, and in doing so it needlessly complicates matters for people who do.

No it doesn't. It only prevents you from INTENTIONALLY installing something POTENTIALLY harmful. All the spyware in the world, being installed using exploits, rather than stupid users, conveniently circumvents UAC anyway. UAC's main reason for existing is so that Microsoft can shift the blame of an "Insecure OS" from being Microsofts fault, to being the users fault.
