The problem is that this stand clashes with your previous one. Anyway, the 'appears to be stable' is the point here. Ring 0 drivers can cause security issues, collide with other apps and official windows updates, or be incompatible with future versions of windows (as the old starforce drivers are incompatible with 64bit os's). The fact that the protection scheme is not as badly coded as starforce is somewhat irrelevant: if Sony's rootkit didn't create the obvious security breach it caused due it's bad coding, would it be right for sony to install it as a stealthed app? it would be right then to have companies secretly install any kind of stuff, for any kind of reason as long as they don't 'appear' to cause damage?
I argued that you seem to make a stand in the wrong place: Steam doesn't do anything bad (the worst I can think of is aggregating info) or install anything stealthed in the background while it also provides useful features, and you say you're not going to give them any money and wonder what kind of filth people installs on their machines, and then pick as an example of rectitude companies which actually cross the line in that respect. I have not problems in installing Securom games myself, but it's just a little contradictory, that's all.
