They would make money both ways... if the pirates disabled the ads, they would just be hurting the advertising companies anyway.
Yes, I'm sure the ad companies will blindly continue giving the game publishers huge wads of money despite the fact that no one is viewing their ads and noone is buying their products. Ad companies are good like that.
