No SCART in the US either -- It's a French/European standard, that never really caught on outside of Europe. (It's also known as 'euroscart' or 'euroconnector')
In general, you'll find a combination of RF, RCA (composite and/or component video) and S-Video on most TV's, with the newer ones also using HDMI. Absolutely no SCART though.
However, not all is lost: You can get converter cables from SCART to S-Video, or SCART to RCA.
(TV's do behave different in the US vs. Netherlands as well: you typically can't re-arrange your channel line-up, each TV station has a predefined channel and that's it. You can turn on/off individual channels in the TV setup, but you normally can't group them in any other order, which is a bit annoying)
