You mean something that's part of WinXP SP3, or something else?
[edit] Specifically, because I have no reason to believe there's any 3rd-party program interfering with the operation of these, but clearly (to me) there's something installed with SP3 that does. I thought you might have some insight into an SP3 "enhancement" that might be interfering, like the new "indexing" thingy for example.
