I'm a judge of the RR comp and let me tell you this - everyone has a chance of winning.
Having been a judge previously, you really don't know how it'll pan out until the very end. Some entries fail to arrive, others are buggy or have substantial design flaws. Others are incomplete, or barely playable. You never can tell.
One thing I would say to any entrant is don't be too ambitious. Three months sounds like a long time, but it goes very quickly with life getting in the way.
Just be sure to choose a game that you really loved - by the end you'll probably hate it, but don't start with an unknown or something that you think will win. It won't. It's got to be a labour of love or you'll just get bored and frustrated.
Above all else though, have fun. Enjoy it. If you win a prize, then that's great - if not, at least you've gained experience and the retro enthusiasts will have another game to play.
