If people hadn't been ripping off the industry for decades with no recourse, these protection methods that everybody whinges about probably wouldn't even exist.
As i said a 2 sided coin, if 'the industry' (to name a few, not just music) had not been ripping consumers, artists and well, everyone off for decades with no recourse, then piracy would be much less profound and the whole culture of "the corporate man is a bad man", "welcome to the machine" & "ya' all want a single?.." wouldn't exist either.(or chicken and egg as you so elegantly put it :)
