Copyright lasts for between 50-100 years from the artist's death, depending on the country.
Added to that: usually a publisher owns part of the rights, at least mostly the exclusive exploitation rights, and since those publishers are usually big companies that won't just go away or die.. the music will always be protected by some person or company.
