This is complete bullsh*t.
In three months, or twelve months, or two years, Autodesk is still not going to want to rewrite their code, but they also don't want to be perceived as having fallen behind, so they just retard OpenGL. The purpose of releasing the OpenGL3 spec, which changes absolutely nothing, was for Khronos employees to look like they did something for the last two years.
The same forces that blocked Long's Peak are going to be the same a year from now. The whole last two years was the time they were supposed to be doing this stuff. Instead they spent the last two years jerking each other off.
Khronos is not responsible for a single piece of OpenGL source code. OpenGL is not open-source. It isn't any code at all. It's just a spec. All Khronos does is post a PDF that says what the commands are and what they should do. The vendors do all the real work of writing the implementations. But Khronos can't even do that right.
I have talked to one ARB member who's name is on almost every extension paper, and he is jumping ship. I don't have any information on this, but I would not be surprised if we hear of a new cross-platform API taking the place of OpenGL. There are too many pissed off people, and they are going to have some time on their hands now, so it is only natural.
Again, this doesn't really affect anything right now or for the next 2-3 years, but it is important to have a plan for the future.
