Afraid of the dark? Well, sad as i've enjoyed the darkness and the monster closets in Doom3 a lot.
Just play some more whack-a-mole, with your eyes closed then. There are far more action titles available than titles which manage to scare you.
Yeah. Only one I can think of that is actually scary is Vampire: The Masquerade.
