@Ginger Tea: Well said
As i said above somewhere most people couldnt care less weather they were using OSX, Windows gui, KDE or gnome. They are all easy, logical and capable frontends. I use mainly ubuntu over windows simply because I prefer it and I find it a more comfortable, less patronising/annoying environment that requires less maintenence, thats just my preference. My capabilities of actually "doing stuff" is just as possible on all 3 systems i use (Ubu, XP, Vis).
@CS_TBL: thats what i was saying, its all about dependency. A lot of users however have no dependency and could use any system like ginger tea just stated. However they still get unknowingly steered into using windows automatically, simply by the way it is distributed and its existing 'presence'.
As for copying their neihbours apps, they wouldnt need to with Ubuntu etc, you simply go "shopping" with the package manager (and its 100% legal). As for 'downloading stuff' the tools are the same sort as on windows.
