The point was a funny satire....

It's worth noting that the author's comments (the author of the comic) said that this was a true story, and that his sister's wifi still doesn't work to this day so he doesn't fear she will read the comic he publishes regularly...

@D4NM4N
Yeah, sorry about this. Got you stuck in another os debate ;-)

I guess the ultimate point is that I personally like linux, for simple stuff like you said. Anything advanced and you practically have to live at your pc for a few years filling jars of urine and paying someone to empty them for you.

There are many valid points though. If the flavors were to join forces and come to a standard with many of the inconsistencies, linux would be a very competitive product.

Mac has always had 3 button support (since osx), but every time you want something mac, you have to deal with Apple.... Why is that bad? Because Apple is EXACTLY what they had always preached against with 'big brother IBM'. They build it, they distribute it, they lic it. Just look at this crap with the iPhone.... I can't get one unless I go to THEM.... Mr. Jobs used to call IBM big brother, and speak out against them in his commercials and what not. Now Apple is big brother... They wont let you do anything 3rd party anymore (3rd party support on ipod? nope, not officially supported).

Windows has it's issues a plenty. But the bottom line is that it's number #1 with consumers of the desktop market (non-server). It works out of the box, and I don't need M$'s permission to build a new pc of 3rd party parts for it to run on. Hell, I don't ever have to see a M$ agent/sales person to use it or even buy it. They don't give me the mud slinging commercials which although I consider funny, I still think they are down right childish. It's like watching a smaller kid on the playground call the bigger kids names behind their backs in hopes of gaining support on them getting picked not-last....

M$ takes their beating from everyone, they usually add features which are commonly asked of them, and still want us to generally succeed with their os. Mac doesn't really care if we succeed, they care if Steve likes it or not. Steve is like the spoiled kid with his bell. As long as he likes it he assumes 90% of the market will, in fact he banks on it, he preys of morons in many cases. Linux? Yeah, here's an os that everyone thinks they can "rebuild" themselves... "Hey, I have an idea of a feature to add, I'll make my own linux flavor and I'll be popular too!". It's a great idea, but everytime the hardware changes I have to sit around and wait till the 3rd party guys build drivers for me and my flavor. That is if they haven't lost interest and abandoned the project... In which case I dont have to wait, I can just build my own. By the time I do that I have just learned enough useless linux tips and tricks that I am now unable to move from my chair as atrophy has set into my muscles.
