Why not just watch a movie?
I think the future is in the algorithms. The only way to create these more compelling characters is to study ourselves and break it down into useable chunks. Scripting only goes so far and is way too abstract to use as it relates to the advance of games as a medium.
This goes back to what Kojima was saying. Right now we can script plants growing when they get water. That's not the point though. The point is to create real time dynamics. In time those dynamics will evolve into heart and soul.
