Blitzmax, in my opinion, is no longer a hobbyist language but a serious development tool.
I have yet to see anyone create anything 'substantial' with Blitzmax......
When you look beyond the hype, the world also still has yet to see anyone create a substantial consumer desktop application with the world's most popular programming language: Java. Java has become an accepted enterprise-level server platform, but it still is a complete failure on the desktop. And while we're at it, Java still has to deliver on the "write once, run anywhere" promise -- it never came out of its "write once, debug everywhere" situation, especially on cell phones. Eclipse, Cyberduck (OS X only) and Tribal Trouble are still the only Java desktop apps that leave a positive impression. Now don't get me started Netbeans -- its only purpose seems to be to bring my Quad Core Mac Pro with 8 GB RAM to its knees.
Similar things can be said about the .NET platform and its languages, unless Paint.NET, SharpDevelop and the iLife-rip offs from the Mono guys, Banshee & Co., qualify as something 'substantial' (which would not do the word 'substantial' justice).
