im beggining to wonder what the pc gaming world would be like if doom didnt come out in 94ish
sure someone would have made a better wolfenstien engine akin to dooms one but would it have been as good
and if it wasnt
would that mean that the plethora of fps that we have today wouldnt be here at all?
what if ID made the first (well known) match 3 game instead ;)
i cant think of a single post doom game by id that ISNT a fps
then people bought the licence to their engine and made god knows how many games, then the same with the quake engines
some were good others (re most) were been there done that next
i played a demo of blodwych's 3d sequel and as i liked that game (a bit more than dungeon master save for the issues of trying to play 2 player via joysticks), but i never had a pc when it came out it was just on one of the shop pc's and only on when it was quiet or in 'attract mode' but i always wanted to play a more fps-esque dungeon master type game
