Also there is so much readily available technology for game devs now, many of which can be ported from the PC to consoles with relative ease that there really is no reason not to support both PC and consoles. Even with console games, the PC versions more often than not are the better versions if your willing to wait a few months for their release.
Could you name a few? Especially those which are more affordable also for indies and which are really reliable without writing your code around the usual problems which show up during a project?
API's like ogre are largely independent of the renderer being used, so you can compile a plugin for your renderer of choice. Currently GL, DX7, DX9, DX10. There are also unofficial ones for various consoles and handhelds.
I haven't used the latest versions of Ogre but i would be surprised if you get shaders runnning without any problems on different platforms this easily. Beside of that Ogre is just a renderer and you're missing all the rest of the stuff.
