I liked Doom 3, played it through (again) last month with great pleasure. I don't think the PC gaming market is dead, I think it's in transition of technology, and that Vista really put the PC gaming into trouble because of the split between DX9 and DX10 (and now the near completed DX11).
Developping on the PC will always be complex and will always give the best gaming results no matter what. It's been proven by some ports from consoles, where the PC version was slightly better in both graphics and gameplay (keyboard + mouse + latest graphics hardware).
PC gaming is fine imho.
