I'm well read on Blu Ray, thanks. Sony developed a special protective coating for PS1 CD's too, but they still scratched as badly as a standard cd. The black dye helped to make them readable despite the scratches, but it was hardly a roaring success even so.
I'm also well-read enough to have read reports from people claiming scratches from the center to the edge of their discs. Such scratches could not be caused by vibrations or drive operation, so the insert/ejection mechanism seems like the most likely cause.
Either way, if they had a drive tray, I'd be much more inclined to buy one.
