An old physics tutor of mine used to work at Bell Labs in the days when fibre optics were fairly new. He told us that what he described as 'the men in black' came round, and they were told to co-operate totally with these men and ask no questions. What were they interested in? Expensive equipment for bulk analysing communications in the fibres. We'll have one of them, one of them....
