What is critical about Windows in my opionion is that most users (lets say 90%) just go to nearest reseller grap a computer and don't think about what they're doing. I think that MacOS could be sold much better than it is today when everyone would just get some information about other operating systems.
Who just goes to a car-seller and buys a car without asking for a testride? Noone would, but many people aren't aware that there are many other possibilities than just Windows.
Windows definately has its pros like Linux has. I tried all three operating systems and for me Mac is the one that I can work best with. Allthough I still have an old computer that runs Win an Linux.
