Games are all about entertainment. If someone is entertained by attractive visuals then that's important (and dare I say it even more important) than gameplay to that person. The same is true of gameplay, or sound. It all comes down to what it is that entertains people, and there are factors which change that... such as personality type or what society is like at that time.
