The difference between the world now and 50 years ago is that people aren't struggling for survival but rather happiness. 50 years ago it would have been suicidal (or nearly) for an unhappy housewife to leave her husband. These days people are searching for the ideal not the necessary. It's unfortunate though that often times they drop the ideal situation right under their nose instead of working through minor issues.
