its hard to compare a 50 odd year old business model that we kinda just accept to a possible revenue source for video games that we are used to paying money for (or not)
in the uk you have to buy a tv licence which pays for the bbc (itv c4 c5 earn via adverts and sponsors)
then money to sky, virgin media or some other cable satalite provider if you arnt on freeview
other countries im guessing are advert based and you only pay for the cable/satalite feed
when you buy something on dvd you dont expect adverts (trailers perhaps) nor when you gio to the cinema do you want them to interupt the film every 20 mins with 5 mins of adverts as youve paid whatever to see the film (even if you are the only customer in the audience) but those adverts are to be expected on tv
how much was the superbowl half time break?
im pretty sure it was way more than halfway through a rerun of some old sitcom
edit:
btw EVERY free video link ive clicked on with my mobile this month has had the same advert the cisco skatboard one, perhaps 3 arnt that good at touting for new advertisers?
