I don't know how to use commandline tools in windows let alone linux. Most people just want to have a simple installer and be done with it.

Bmax with mingw is pain enough and would have put me off if I hadn't gotten hooked on B3D and wanted to stick with it. A lot of people coming from windows to linux will want it to do most things for you like windows does.

I saw Ubuntu was on the BBC web page today, next version installed on windows without any need to do anything at all to prep your HD etc. Sounded interesting.

Being primarily an artist, Linux is just a irritation with no decent software that compares favourably to the commercial software I need to work professionaly. But I can see how it might surfice for basic office tasks if more people adopted it.
