In the OLD days, you had to use the Terminal program to connect to a BBS and download Netscape or IE.
I thought someone would mention that :). But seriously, an OS needs internet software out of the box. It doesn't have to be extraordinarily good - just enough to let you download what you want. Selling an OS without a browser in this age is almost like selling a locked car without a key.
