Just out of the stomach:

1) Go, get some work and buy yourself a unity pro licence and spare a lot of time afterwards.
2) Have a try with free solutions like XNA2 ( http://creators.xna.com/ ) or JavaMonkeyEngine ( http://jmonkeyengine.com/ ).
3) Try out Gabriel's TV3D with BlitzMax.
4) You also could give Shiva a try ( http://www.stonetrip.com/index.php?lang=en ).
5) Wait for Director's 3D Engine Update / Flow with BlitzMax / Max3D (or at least a worklog update :O).
