I own it since an eternity as well, but as a professional developer I understand as well that "working forever for free" on it makes little sense when the engine you wrote it for is on its last breaths (as BRL does not intend to make it future hardware compatible by porting it to DX9) so you have steady dropping chances to see new costumers.
For the normal cases you sure are right: better product -> more mouth to mouth propaganda -> more costumers
that said: Perhaps I didn't clarify that enough, but I surely would be happy about it as well as I own and use FastExt myself. I would surely consider a small donation wif it was fully and correctly implemented with potential optimations in mind.
