@ sswift - Have you considered a multi-screen setup? I never found a single monitor (regardless of size) to ever do the trick, so I rigged my old 15" CRT up to use for references while I Photoshop on my 17" LCD.
At any rate, I like that blind-screen idea where you roll it up when you're done, I believe that's actually possible with an OLED screen no?
(I recall them being flexible to a degree)
