My feelings on this are very mixed. I'm all in favour of banning the thieves from having broadband, but this is the latest in a long line of moves toward a police state. I'm aware that we live in a world where most people are both unable and unwilling to accept responsibility for their own lives and quite like handing it over to other people, but I don't see why those of who are and can should do the same.
Given that this is only ever going to work against computer illiterates using Rapidshare and whatever P2P applications are currently in-vogue, I'd much rather just see Rapidshare-style sites and the P2P sites who cannot or will not filter illegal content shut down. It'd be be a shame if we had to give up what can be a useful service when it is (occasionally) used for legal purposes, but I can't help thinking that giving up Rapidshare and P2P apps is a lot less than giving up what few civil liberties we still have.
