I bought a new HP HDX9130 laptop with Vista Home Premium installed.
Its a fairly powerful laptop with a great gfxcard and 2GB RAM.
In the beginning it went fine.. everything worked as it should (not 3D Studio Max, due to problems with the 3D desktop)
Not a month later it was running really slow, like XP does after a years usage (installs, uninstalls, 10gb Windows folder and so forth)
Just normal operations in the windows explorer would take ages and network access suddenly was painfully slow - not to mention file access time went up all the time.
I reinstalled Vista, it was fast again. A month later, same problem.
Now I have XP Pro SP2 installed, and its much faster and more responsive than it ever was with Vista.
I admit I was biased against Vista from the start, but this experience made me tell all my friends to stay away from it with personal knowledge that its a bad purchase.
As an end note - I am the kind of guy that enjoys tweaking and cleaning my system every day to get maximum responsiveness and speed out of my systems, but no matter what I did, Vista just died on me.
