My experience with Vista thus far:

The bad:

- Had to disable UAC to make it half-way usable
- network copying & compressed folders slow beyond belief
- Intermittent graphical glitches (every two days or so I have to kill the explorer.exe task because the start button stops working, and the tasks on the taskbar are drawn right on top of it
- 950 MB used just to stare at the desktop, not running anything
- I dispise most of the enhancements such as the "breadcrumbs" in the explorer windows, the removal of the "go up one folder" icon which was very easily spotted and always in the same place under XP
- The integrated search is near unusable if you often search across non-indexed network locations -- especially when entering a new path makes you lose your keywords and vice versa.

The good:

- (3rd party Unixtools for Windows actually *work* reliably under Vista. They worked under Win2000 as well, but were very inconsistent and unstable under XP. (e.g. the same nested command string would fail 9 our of 10 runs under XP, but is rock solid under vista)

That last one is actually a big one in my book, because it does make my life a lot easier... But most of the other changes are a whole lot of Meh in my book.

Is there anyone who can suggest a free 3rd party search utility that looks & feels just like the classic Windows 2000 search? Vista's 'enhancements' in that area really do bug me to no end.
