He's making fun of how every time I save my source, I increment a number on the end like so: SpaceBeetles-026.bmx

Then when I have like 10 of those in the directory I move them to a subdirectory called "Old", and every few months I just copy my whole BlitzMax directory to another drive in my system in case I ever have a hard drive crash.

That's all. There's nothing rediculous about it. It works for me. I don't need that SVC crap, I'm not one programmer among 20 at some big corporation. :-) Retro64 once tried to get me to use SVC for a game I was doing for them, I think, but we couldn't get it to work with Blitz properly, and I hated how it kept leaving all these stupid little data files all over the place. And using it meant that if I saved a blank file by accident, then I'd lose all my data since the last time I sent him an update, since I'd only have the one source file I kept saving over.

Personally, I think it's overrated. :-) Back when I worked for Irrational Games, they were constantly passing around this pink brick to signify something that had to do with who had control of the source or something. I don't know exaclty what it was, but they had a source control system too, and if they needed a little pink brick to make sure stuff didn't get all screwed up ANYWAY, then it seems to me that that sort of thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. :-)

But my silly reasoning for my prejudices is neither here not there. Point is, I've been using this system since I started coding, and I've NEVER lost code, and I can always go back to old versions and find what I need easily. There's nothing ridiculous about it!

Oh and he's probably complaining simply because he had to work on my Builder Bots code after I finished the game because the people wanted some additions, and it was probably hell cause I wrote it in BlitzPlus in a rush and did not have time to work out the very best way of handling state systems and menus and crap, so the code was a bit hard to follow. (Not my sprite system of course since I spent lots of time making sure that was perfect.)

SO HE'S JUST BITTER. :-)
