Its quite a good way to try it out, but do you get the full direct glx 3D acceleration with VMware?

I think what puts a lot of people off linux is that they load it up expecting it to work like windows, it doesnt, its totally different except from the fact it has a standard GUI. I reckon a lot of users who consider themselves experts or "advanced users" feel intimidated (or just angry) that their knowlage is suddenly useless, so go running back to the "safety" of windows.
(Not a critisism and doesnt apply to everyone, but thats how i used to feel, but i stuck at it and never regretted it) I can only compare it to living in an 'nice city' but over the mountains is a utopian city with bright lights, faster transport, clean streets and safe neibourhoods (but speak a totally different language).
Problem is, to cross the mountains all you have is a few sandwiches, an ice pick, a phrasebook, and an old mule named bob who knows the way.
