Back in High school we had a LAN of 286 machines running Windows 3.1 (brand new OS!!!!). I created a simple chat program using Quickbasic that wrote to a file that all the other programs read/wrote to. Had about 16 students chatting in the computer lab together on this console based chat client before the lab instructor found out and had me banned from the computers at that high school.
