Exact same problem as i said above (me and th missus play co-op b.gate)
We kind of gave up in the end trying to get vista to talk to XP for baulders gate (and i'm an MS cert. IT engineer so i should know how it *should* work). I tried everything I (and dawlane) could think of, disabled all firewalls & vista "security", ipV6 removed, disabled wireless and just cables to router - still no joy (vista tries to do some weird analysing crap with my router).
I eventually got it to work with a basic crossover cable, static IPs. However, Vista then decided to disable my network card halfway through a game and would not re-enable, after that I was so pissed i went to bed and have not tried this vista again tried since.
Since then I managed to get baulders gate working by using a Win98 virtual machine on Linux and its working great. You got a MAC right? try doing something similar.
