Could you notice a 40fps game?

Miscellaneous Forums/General Discussion/Could you notice a 40fps game?

This from memory from some research that was done in a lot of detail quite a while ago but if I remember it correctly there are three things that influence people's perception of different frame rates.

The frame rate
The amount of movement or change from one scene to the next.
The viewer

The more change in the scene the higher the frame rate you need to accomodate it.

Anyway with a "typical" amount of change in each frame they found.

Different people can percieve differnt changes in framerate and it is possible to tell the difference between a stable 60 FPS and 75FPS but not everyone can. Above 75 FPS it was found that people's choices where the same as the random score. It's important to note that this work was done on CRT's which have a different refresh rate a where "flicker" is more noticeable.
