I know what you're saying, but being creative and producing games to sell is a much better use of time than sitting infront of a TV watching some soap!
Besides, I actually think the whole casual game phenomenon and Nintendo's WII (which introduced a physical aspect to some of the games) has helped get more people playing games for fun. My Father-in-law is after a WII (yes the console) and he's nearly 60! My (I'm too cool to play games) rock friend has been totally hooked on casual games when we have down time in work.
